Smart Pedestrian Counter is used for counting the number of pedestrians and bicyclists that use a path and/or crosswalk. SPEC will be using image recognition to distinguish pedestrians and bicyclists. Once the device has detected a pedestrian and/or bicyclist the data will be sent to the server which will then be accessed by city hall and any online users. The data will be sent every hour and be plotted out. SPEC will only take pictures when motion is detected; it will not save nor send any pictures to the server. The device will be solar-powered allowing it to be off-grid. There will be no monthly fees from sending data.
