Pedestrian Spotter
Currently, many cities and businesses would like to have more data on pedestrian and bicycle traffic within public places in order to perform more effectively. The pedestrian/bicycle counter is designed to look over an area with many pedestrian and bicycle passers, which will count them as they go. As a result, businesses will use this data in many ways. Depending on the type of business a business can then plan seating, meal preparation, limit customers and estimate sales. On the other hand, after a city has this data they can use the data to provide maintenance, design infrastructure accordingly, or use this data as they need. Therefore, the idea of the pedestrian/bicycle counter device is to sell the device to individual customers or also provide a monthly fee service for the use of the data.
The overall purpose of our device, the pedestrian counter, is to be able to have a counter that can distinguish between pedestrians and cyclists, while operating through solar energy. Along with meeting these goals we also plan to meet our customers needs. In the market place we also expect the Pedestrian Counter to stand out because of its functionalities. Currently, the majority of pedestrian counters in the market place only operate indoors with a few that function in the outdoors. Those that do operate in the outdoors don’t have the ability to distinguish objects or aren’t able to stream data to a cloud and rely on memory cards. As a result, the Pedestrian Counter will have more functionalities when compared to other outdoor counters.
