Welcome to the Department of Engineering

The Department of Engineering values experiential education, innovation and research, and collaborations with local and regional industries. The department has a world-class faculty team with decades of academic and industry experience. The engineering laboratories are equipped with cutting-edge technology and supported by endowments and grants. The department aspires to be a leading engineering program that provides outstanding educational value to students and produces graduates who are prepared to enter the workforce and lead and innovate in their fields. The department offers programs leading to bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the following disciplines:

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering: The Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is a comprehensive program that prepares students for exciting careers in industry and for graduate school. The graduates of the program will find opportunities in industries such as, Technology; Hardware and Software; Communication; Computer; Robotics and Automation; Aerospace and Defense; Automotive; and Integrated Circuits. The BSEE program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering: The Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (MSECE) program focuses on the interconnection between electrical engineering hardware and computer science software. The MSECE curriculum includes internships and opportunities for collaboration with local industries that prepare graduates for employment in high-tech industries. The MSECE program is designed for professionals holding bachelor's degrees in diverse areas of engineering and sciences. The program is designed to accommodate both full-time and part-time students.

Minor in Electrical Engineering: The Department offers a minor program in EE to provide an opportunity to any non-EE major student interested in gaining ability and training in the field of Electrical Engineering.

Transfer Students: The Engineering Department welcomes transfer students at all levels. We have a thriving community of transfer students. Our transfer students participate in research projects, write research articles, present at regional and national conferences, win research and project competitions, and lead student organizations. Students who have completed the appropriate math, physics, programming, and engineering courses at a community college can complete the BSEE degree in two to three years at SSU.

International Students: With world-class degree programs and proximity to high-tech companies, Sonoma State Engineering offers excellent educational opportunities and ample post-graduation job prospects for international students. Sonoma State and the cities around the university have vibrant international communities. A part of the greater San Francisco Bay region, Sonoma County is known for its natural beauty, vineyards, food, and culture, and there is no lack of things to do or places to go for any one, any time of the year. Sonoma State Engineering accepts international applications for both the BSEE and MSECE programs.
