Sonoma State University Engineering Students Showcase Innovation at the 2026 Senior Design Expo

On May 8, 2026, the Engineering Department at Sonoma State University hosted its annual Senior Design Expo, bringing together students, faculty, alumni, industry professionals, family members, and community supporters to celebrate the accomplishments of graduating engineering students.

The event highlighted the creativity, technical skills, and dedication of senior student teams as they presented the results of their year-long capstone projects. Throughout the expo, students demonstrated working prototypes, explained their engineering design processes, and answered technical questions from attendees.

This year’s projects reflected a broad range of engineering interests and real-world applications, including sustainability, wireless communication, automation, healthcare technology, remote monitoring, and intelligent systems. Featured projects included Smart Aquaponics, Remote Energy Access, Jam Guard, HandiMan, and Brethalyze, among others.

The expo attracted many guests from both the university and the broader engineering community. Alumni, members of the Electrical Engineering Industry Advisory Board, local industry representatives, parents, faculty colleagues, and friends of the department participated in the event and engaged directly with student teams. Their questions, feedback, and encouragement created an exciting professional atmosphere that closely resembled a real-world engineering conference or product demonstration environment.

The Senior Design experience remains one of the most important components of the Engineering curriculum at Sonoma State University. Through these projects, students apply knowledge gained throughout their coursework while developing practical experience in teamwork, communication, project management, research, prototyping, and problem-solving.

The Engineering Department extends its sincere appreciation to all guests, alumni, advisory board members, industry professionals, faculty, staff, friends, and families who attended the 2026 Senior Design Expo and helped make the event a memorable success. Most importantly, congratulations to the graduating engineering students for their outstanding work and professionalism throughout the event.
